CHILDREN'S ILLUSTRATION

Being a big history geek, I like the old-time term "illuminator" to describe an illustrator.

Working a lot in children's books, the art of illustration to me is also telling a story - only that my words are images.

Much of work in recent times has been digital but I still very much like traditional media such as pen and ink with watercolour washes or the expressive feel of pencil work.

PERSONAL PROJECTS & OTHER STRANGENESS

I'm very grateful that I still get the occasional luxury of doing art for myself.  Whenever I can, I'll take part in "un-contests" - where you're challenged to create work to suggested themes and prompts.  The prize?  Maybe some bragging rights but an outlet to explore new themes and methods.
Some of my favourites are the various Inktober challenges each October and the now-defunct and much-missed 52 Week Illustration Challenge.

For the record, I'm not all kidlit art.  Occasionally I do get commissioned for commercial work ... and not all my art is directed at kids.  Hmmm, not that way ... er... it's adult... right that didn't sound right... Oh just click on the link and take a look OK (relax it's family-friendly)
